Asia/Pacific Regional Women’s Committee focuses on key points of action
The 9th Asia/Pacific Regional Women’s Committee apart from statutory discussions, came up with key points of action – develop implementation guidelines for realising policy on 30% quota for women; conduct regular gender audit prior to Congress and stronger implementation of Sexual Harassment policy to address Violence Against Women in all forms. The RWC also decided to work towards the establishment of national level women committees in key countries on the lines of existing National Women’s Committee in India.
Beli Maiya Ghale, member of the Regional Women’s Committee referring to the quota cited her union’s policy in Nepal “Our union has made 33% compulsory representation of women in elected bodies including the central committees. This is important to ensure that women have a say in decision making bodies and gender issues are prioritized.”
