New Presidium elected
The new presidium elected in Bangkok on 5 December includes Per Olof Sjoo, Dietmar Schafers, Pierre Cuppens and Ambet Yuson.
Per Olof is the new president of the BWI. Peo is Swedish. He worked as a window carpenter. In 1998, responsible officer for national collective agreement for wood workers at the Forest and Wood Workers Trade Union. As from the year 2000, Peo was the head of the bargaining department at the union until he was elected as president of GS, the Swedish union of forestry, wood and graphical workers. Presently, a Board member of LO Sweden - the Swedish confederation - and chairs the LO-TCO Secretariat of the International trade union development cooperation. For many, Peo isn't unkown as he was previously the deputy-president of the BWI.
Dietmar Schäfers is one of the new deputy-presidents of the BWI. Dietmar is German. Dietmar is a draftsman by training who got involved in trade unionism in 1975. Very rapidly, he became union secretary. As from 2001, he held high-ranking positions in IG Bau and since 2009 as deputy chairman of the Federal executive. In parallel, Dietmar held external responsibilities as member of the Board of Directors of the Federal emmployment agency, vice chair of the company Xervon GmbH, and member of the board STRABAG AG. At international level, Dietmar has been involved in the European Federation of Building and Wood Workers, EFBWW, and in the World Council of the BWI.
Pierre Cuppens is also one of new deputy-presidents of the BWI. Pierre is from Belgium. For more than 10 years, Pierre worked as a general contractor in the construction sector. He started in the Building Industry and Energy of CSC BIE as regional manager of Liège. Today, Pierre is the general secretary of CSC BIE -the largest trade union federation in the construction sector in the country. Also chairman of the Economic and Socail Council of the Walloon region and involved in the EFBWW. Also member of the BWI World Council of the BWI .
Ambet Yuson re-elected general secretary of the BWI. First time elected at BWI congress in France in 2009.
He is currently the chair of the Council of Global Unions, CGU, until 2014.
