Strategy plan and resolutions
Per-Olof Sjoo, Deputy President of the BWI presented the strategic plan for 2014 – 2017 - “Our strategic plan is based on three key areas - Organising and Trade Union Building, Bargaining and Influencing Policy and improving Institutional participation. “This plan is a document to make a difference to workers’ lives – we need to reach out to workers and organize, otherwise we cannot negotiate and influence policies. Alliance and networks with Global Unions Federations, Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders are also important.”

Forest certification is one of the key areas of BWI strategic work. Tim Carstensen from the FSC and William Street from PEFC spoke about the respective forest certification programme vis-à-vis labour and trade union rights. This was followed by discussions on the Strategic Plan, which was later adopted after taking into consideration responses from the floor.

A total of 19 resolutions were tabled for the consideration of the Congress. This included 4 composite resolutions, 11 ordinary resolutions and 4 emergency resolutions classified under BWI Internal Policies, Solidarity Resolutions, Migration, China and Decent Work, IFAs and MNCs. The emergency resolutions are on Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines, BWI Qatar Mission, Illicit Timber Trade and Health & Safety in Forestry.
